igland

A homelab operated by Lyrenhex.

Contact

If you need to contact me for administrative reasons relating to the igland.xyz services, you can use any of the methods listed on my personal homepage or email me at social AT lyrenhex DOT com.

Services

Status page

I operate some services on the igland infrastructure which are restricted to my use only. These are not enumerated here as they are only of interest to myself, but may appear in status monitoring for my own benefit.

Registration

Using any igland service is on an invite-only basis, and is restricted to individuals who know me.

If we're friends, contact me via any of your existing methods to do so to request an account on igland::social and/or the Matrix homeserver.

An igland::social account automatically allows usage of igland::code via Single Sign-On (SSO).

Matrix does not have SSO with igland::social, and so an account must be requested from me.

Moderation

All igland services are moderated, both to ensure that we operate as good netizens to the wider network, and to preserve the quality of experience for igland service users.

Service users are welcome to contact me regarding moderation issues at any time if in need of adjudication: please use the Report function built in to the respective service or, failing that, contact me separately. I may follow up with you individually if there is insufficient information to act on the report.

If you are a remote system administrator and you have an issue with an igland service user, please contact me via the methods described earlier.

Information about who submitted a complaint about a specific user will not be shared with any other user, including those about whom the complaint was submitted, unless the complaint was submitted by a UK legal authority. In this case, except where such disclosure would contradict a legal requirement, the user will be notified of the complaint's origin.

In all circumstances, excepting legal orders mandating that the user not be notified at all, a user about whom a complaint has been received will be notified of the existence of the complaint and (usually) the content which the complaint was about, except where this may cause harm to another user or affect an ongoing legal proceeding.

Any complaints will be acknowledged with a response, including an indication of when it will be actioned (if not already). You may opt-out of any further correspondance following a complaint by informing me (either in the initial complaint or in response to a follow-up communication), in which case this will be noted internally and honoured.

Expected behaviours of igland service users

These are indicative descriptions and not an exhaustive list. "Rules lawyering" is not acceptable. It is acknowledged that misunderstandings can occur, so for effectively all cases a dialogue will be opened with you if we believe you to have breached these expected behaviours (caveat: this may not be possible if the situation involves law enforcement).

All igland services operate under the law of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This will not be defined here. UK Law overrules any and all rules described here.

  1. Do not post content that is illegal, hateful, or abusive in nature. This includes, but is not limited to, racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, bigotry (including any other offensive sentiment directed at any LGBT+ identity which have not been enumerated here), discrimination, hateful religious rhetoric, gory or shocking images, unwarranted / non-consensual sexual comments or imagery, et cetera.
  2. Do not post explicit content to other users without their explicit consent, and any such content must be explicitly marked as such. Additionally, it is always forbidden to post any content which appears to depict an individual or character below the age of 18, or which is intended to harm the reputation or image of another individual. You should not use your account primarily for distributing explicit content, and doing so may lead to account termination.
  3. Computer hacking, exploitation, or any attempts to do so, sourcing from igland.xyz systems or infrastructure, or towards igland.xyz systems or infrastructure, is strictly forbidden. Attempting to test the stability of igland's infrastructure via load testing or penetration testing is considered hacking, and is forbidden.
  4. Promoting, hosting, or distributing extremist politics or ideologies is forbidden. This is to protect the users and administrators of the services.

The nature of these services, with a restrictive userbase, are considered to bear a low-to-medium risk of harm following an online safety risk assessment; these risks originate from the user-to-user interactivity enabled by the services, which are mitigated through the services being restricted to specific individuals who are known to be over the age of 18.

However, as igland::social and Matrix are federated, the risk of seeing illegal content cannot be eliminated completed, as it may originate from other services. Likewise, whilst the services will not have child users of their own, users may be able to interact with children on connected services.

Should any illegal content be posted to the services, or federated to the services from another connected service, this content should be immediately reported to the administrator (me): an offending user will be subsequently banned or otherwise disciplined (depending on severity) and the offending content will be removed summarily. Content relating to terrorism, CSEA, and other such priority illegal content will be promptly reported to relevant authorities. In the event that content was federated from an external connected service, that service may be 'defederated' (that is, its connection to our service cut off) from the services -- though such an eventuality is reserved for cases wherein the moderation of that service fails to uphold the same standards as we do after such content is reported.

Security, Privacy, and your Rights

I endeavour to take as many precautions as possible to preserve the security of the services provided; however, should an incident occur, affected users will be notified using the appropriate platform and any other available means if deemed appropriate to the severity of the event.

Servers may only be accessed using TLS, with certificates issued by Let's Encrypt and renewed every 30 to 90 days.

TLS termination does not occur until relevant packets have entered igland infrastructure boundaries; intermediate services such as Cloudflare are not used. Packets which may require additional routing over the external network are always encrypted, either via TLS or using a WireGuard VPN tunnel.

Intellectual Property

You may only upload content to the service for which you hold the legal right to do so, and you warrant your ownership of that right in doing so.

I respect DMCA and other copyright takedown requests communicated via the contact information noted at the top of this page.

You retain the ownership of any intellectual property provided to any igland service, but you provide a license to allow us to retain, present, modify, and share the content. This is so that we can fulfil the purposes of the services: that is, display the content on your account page, federate the content to connected services via the appropriate mechanisms (ActivityPub for igland::social, or Matrix), and generate compressed variants of media to save space. This license will be deemed to have been revoked upon the deletion of the content, whether by yourself or by us.

Where your content has been deleted, connected services will be notified of that event; however, they are outside of the scope of the igland services' management. Should a service fail to comply with a deletion notice, or otherwise fail to delete content which was federated to them but which has been deleted at source, it is your own responsibility to request the removal of that content per your Intellectual Property rights.

Deactivating / deleting your account

The services provided offer the ability to deactivate or delete your account from the respective service. You may also request I do so for you. However, due to the federated nature of various services, it cannot be guaranteed that all data will be removed from every other networked service that may retain a copy, especially those outside of my control, even with appropriate deletion instructions being sent to such services. This may include media, posts, or messages as sent via Mastodon or Matrix.

Matrix-specific concerns

As some messages and media sent via Matrix are encrypted, this data cannot be provided in cleartext. It may also be particularly difficult to provide this data on request outside of the relevant service's automated process.

You agree that you indemnify and are not allowed to hold igland.xyz, its operators and administrators, or Lyrenhex financially or legally responsible for any damages, losses, or claims due to your usage of the services.

No service level agreement is provided or in effect; whilst great effort is made to keep downtime to a minimum, it can happen, and you agree that the above entities are not responsible at all for any losses or damages from such downtimes.
